end of a week in mineeapolis

I am sitting in my hotel room now, all done with the work I had to do. Between yesterday and today, I learned the basics of my job, it’s not that tough, I don’t think. It won’t take me as long to ramp up on this gig as learning store operations did. (That’s a funny transition I just made: I used to call it “the storeperform application” but now i have a slightly bigger vision of what this company is about, and store operations isnt that big a piece)

Of the 4 people in my group, two of them have been soing this thing for many years, like up to 9 years. Many years on the road, doing installs which are mostly the same. Sure, the installer can do different pieces, they pieces are, in case anyone cares, WMS (warehouse), LMS (Labor), and TMS (transportation). It’s mostly running on windows hardware, running sql server. Part of it is written in PHP, and I have to giggle a little because when I interviewd at storeperform almost 3 years ago, I mentioned that i liked writing PHP and one of the folks who interviewed me said “well you won’t need that here”. How a few years changes things. I sometimes wonder how life would have been different if we’d adopted PHP for glass brain back in 2001. It was still a pretty new untested technology at that point.

As long as I can make my financial world work again to the point that I can get some credit, and an AMEX card or two. That’s gonna be a little work, but mostly it will involve getting in touch with my creditors and facing the music. Bankruptcy would have been nice, but i dont think i can do it now. darn.

O was thinkin i might be able to see dr bill while i was in town, but i’ve been too tired, and now it’s snowing and i really dont feel like driving around in a strange town in the snow and rush hour, so i think i’ll sit here and type things that seem interesting, surfing here and there….
